- “Wow, I never would have known you are deaf!”
- “You don’t look deaf.”
- “She was so beautiful, you would have not known she was deaf.”
- “What’s reading braille like?”
- “Can you have children?”
- “You speak so well!”
- “You don’t sound like a deaf person.”
Personally I’m not Deaf (Sometimes I wish I was! Hearing people annoy me.) Not even H.O.H, perfect hearing. But I have a deaf furbaby. My dog, Castiel, is deaf. I’ve had people tell me “oh he can hear me he looked at me!” “Erm…you waved your hands, he saw you so he looked!”
I know it’s not the same as being deaf or having a child who is deaf or HoH. My partner is HoH, I couldn’t imagine what my partner goes though on a daily basis.
I get a good percentage of these towards my dog! (I usually tell my deaf/ally/interpreter friends “my dog has a sign name, and is more in the Deaf culture then I’ll ever be!”)
